Our middle school provides a solid academic grounding in core subjects while forming strong connections with peers, mentors, and teachers. The arts provide a medium for self-expression, self-knowledge, and integration with core subjects. Hands-on science, differentiated math instruction, and integrated humanities coursework provide a challenging academic experience.

Science: All students explore our campus during their Environmental Science class and participate in the school Science Fair. Science concepts are developed through in-depth, hands-on experiments and projects. Students develop content knowledge in Earth, Space, Life, and Physical Science.

- Lucy School students are explorers and scientists.

Social Studies: Studies are aligned with Language Arts objectives. Historical novels support World and American History content standards, and history comes alive through the re-enactment of historical events, hands-on study of geography, field experiences, guest speakers, and structured debates.

- Lucy School students are curious about the world.

Mathematics: Mathematics instruction focuses on deep understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical fluency, preparing students for higher-level mathematics coursework. Differentiation beginning in 7th grade and high school credit for Algebra and Geometry are offered to advanced students.

- Lucy School students can think and apply mathematic concepts.

Language Development: Reading material aligned with Social Studies concepts and objectives includes novels, informational texts and articles, short stories, poetry, and self-selected novels. Emphasis on information, narrative, and argumentative writing throughout the curriculum and individual strengths and presentation skills development. Focus on text analysis, grammar, vocabulary, and writing instruction. Digital literacy is taught and practiced.

- Lucy School students become excellent communicators.

Social Emotional Learning: Problem-solving, communication, and understanding differing perspectives are inherent in our creative and social process. The arts stir curiosity and provoke questions and idea-sharing. Small classes promote community, belonging, and strong connections with peers, teachers, and mentors. Individual expression, self-reliance, independence, and development are developed through choice and experience. Extended outdoor time contributes to joyful engagement. Student Council, buddy classes, special Middle School days, and social experiences provide opportunities to develop leadership skills and social engagement.

- Lucy School students understand themselves and others.

Creative Arts & Process Drama: Student individualization and interest are valued through the choice of six electives per year. Examples include musical theater performance, graphic novel design, Math/Art fusion, personal fitness, and hand-building with clay. Students also take one trimester each of integrated music, visual art, and environmental science classes with grade-level peers.

- Lucy School students express themselves through the arts on a daily basis.
